Director Wanted - Shakespeare Community Theater 2023 Production

The Saint James Players (SJP) of Montclair, NJ seeks a director for the troupe’s production of a Shakespeare play, to be performed across two weekends: Sept. 15-17 and Sept. 22-23, 2023. The SJP, which performs in the historic sanctuary of Saint James Church in Montclair, is in its eleventh year of providing free, inclusive and accessible Shakespeare to the surrounding community. The Director would be involved with selecting the play for 2023.

Our 2022 production of Romeo and Juliet (which drew more than 500 people across two weekends of five performances) included a cast and crew of 30+ people, ranging in age from eight to eighty and spanning levels of experience from seasoned actors to first-time performers. The SJP operates under the guidance of an organizing committee, which works with the director to determine play selection, as well as providing counsel regarding the casting process. This non-compensated position requires the commitment of at least two nights per week during the rehearsal process (June through August).
